First-Time Homebuyer Workshop

The first RPCV/W home-buyer workshop was held on Saturday March 10, 2018, at the Real Living At Home (RLAH) Dupont Circle office. Despite the Rock & Roll Marathon that morning that blocked many of the roads downtown, approximately 35 participants attended the two hour presentation.

RLAH’s president, Justin Levitch kicked off the workshop with a warm welcome and introduced Dina Paxenos, Realtor and RPCV Senegal & Guinea. Dina discussed the current DC real estate market, strategies to win in a competitive scenario, and the overall home-buying process.

JD Teitelman, loan officer with First Savings Mortgage, was up next. He gave a well informed discussion on the 7 questions first-time homebuyers are afraid to ask including details on low and no down payment buying programs.

Finally Brendon Shepard, attorney with District Title, spoke about the not so obvious details of the title company’s role in the home-buying process. Some specifics included what is title insurance and why do you need it.

Participants were treated to a continental breakfast with mimosas and coffee. Lots of great questions were asked and answered. Some door prize give-aways were presented to 4 lucky participants including an Amazon Echo Dot, wireless speaker and movie tickets.
